Sunil Nayak
CEO | Reliance Jewels

A Chartered and Cost Accountant by qualification, Sunil Nayak originates from Mumbai, India. Post qualifying in 1987 & 1988 respectively, he spent initial 3 years in India working with WIMCO Ltd and Lupin  Ltd.

In August 1990, he took up an assignment in Nigeria and soon started heading a trading company owned by Dalamal Group as General Manager. In 1996, he joined Mumbai based Ajanta Pharma Ltd for their upcoming manufacturing plant at Mauritius. He soon started heading Ajanta Pharma (Mauritius) Ltd as General Manager and was subsequently elevated as CEO. He developed various markets in Africa for the group. During his tenure, Ajanta Pharma was the first Indian company to have widely penetrated in French speaking African countries.

In 2001, he joined Middle East based retail giant Landmark Group. Between 2001 and 2006, he was looking after Kuwait operations for the group as Country Head. During these 5 years, the business of Kuwait operations grew three fold and became the most profitable country for the group.  In 2006, he was asked to move to group’s headquarters at Dubai, UAE with a mandate to set up International Division. He was also given responsibility to head group’s biggest brand Centrepoint. Under his leadership, the group expanded its operations in various countries in Middle East & Africa. Centrepoint brand became one of the fastest growing brand in the middle east. Today, Centrepoint brand competes with some of the best known international brands like Marks & Spencer, Zara, H & M etc.

In December 2012, he returned back to India and currently heads jewellery division of Reliance Retail Ltd as CEO – Reliance Jewels.

Sunil has extensively travelled into Asia, Africa, Middle East, Europe and North America both at personal and professional capacity. He is married to Trupti and is blessed with two sons –  Dipen & Miten. Sunil loves to travel and is a health freak. While he was based overseas for more than 22 years, he has remained in close touch with India and follows local news with great interest.

Idnani has 23 years of global experience, spanning 9 years in the US and the rest in India. Prior to joining Trent in 2006, he consulted for international Retail and Consumer Goods firms including Borders, Home Depot, K-Mart, PepsiCo and interned at JD Williams (UK). He has also worked with Airlines, Finance, Home Building and Healthcare industries.

At Trent, Idnani has spearheaded SAP implementations at Westside and Landmark and is leading technology change through supply chain automation, retail store efficiency enhancement and initiatives in ecommerce, mobility and use of the cloud. He has led Westside and Star Bazaar’s entry into open source Linux for their point-of-sale and Loyalty programs in 2008, the first such implementation for any retailer in India. Idnani possesses a Bachelor’s in Computer Engineering from University of Mumbai. He is a British Chevening Scholar and has studied advanced information technology management at Manchester Business School.

Ajay Aggarwal

Ajay Aggarwal qualified as an engineer and turned to entrepreneurship after twenty years of corporate life, rising to senior positions in fledgling IT companies of the time. His creative vision manifested in various ventures, including India’s first Point of Sale (POS), SmartShop by Seacom, in 1996, and India’s first online marketplace, KLISMA, in 2009.

Approaching sixty, Ajay retained the youthful energy of entrepreneurship and began working with startups in retail technology and ecommerce, sharing concepts and strategies, and aiding their growth in different roles, including as an investor. Some of these are online food portals, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and POS technology platforms. He enjoys learning new things and innovating in this space.

Over the years, much of Ajay’s creative energy and passion for quality living manifested in social causes (such as attempts to bring a sense of the benefits of order to Pune’s road traffic – a continuing crusade!)

His family and friends always enjoyed his gourmet cooking and his abundant garden, and this has grown into a passion to influence others to grow their own fruit and vegetables, as he does in his rooftop farm.

Siddhesh Sharma
President | Baidyanath Group

Siddhesh Sharma, President of the Baidyanath Group has, over time, amassed plenty of ancestral business knowhow and married it to modern-day applications of Ayurveda in the past decade. Although contemporary in his thought process, his approach represents a paradigm shift in the mindset of the progressive Indian consumer – one who is looking for practical and accessible health.

An alumnus of the University of Nottingham and a branch out of the ‘FBM’ program at the SP Jain Institute, Mumbai, the young scion enjoyed a rather ‘normal upbringing’ albeit with lessons rooted firmly in business from a young age. A decade old in his entrepreneurial journey that spans across varied sectors – healthcare, mining, hospitality and more, Siddhesh still feels new to the ever-evolving innovation-driven landscape and exudes excitement at the prospect of upcoming projects (and challenges that come with) – of which he is currently helming two.

He recently launched his own company, Naturedge Beverages, which manufactures functional beverages. It currently has two product lines – Shunya, a zero-sugar herbal health drink and ARMR, an anti-hangover beverage.

Sandeep Mukim
Managing Director | Proline India

An alumni of the University of Rajasthan, Sandeep Mukim started his career as a National Sales Manager with Arvind Mills in 1995. In over five years at the textile major, he led a team to achieve the budgeted turnover in the national market. He also identified sales target, developed promotional strategies, analyzed market trends, pricing, monitoring competitor strategies and ways to grow sales performance.

In 2000, he joined Raymond Apparel as GM-Sales and Marketing where he leveraged retail relationships and regularly reviewed distribution efficiency, in addition to managing key accounts and national retail chains. Four years later, he joined Universal Clothing to head the apparel division where he formulated and implemented business strategies for the business.

He rejoined Raymond Apparel in 2005 as GM for Business Development. In this role, he conceptualized the company’s business strategy to enter the women’s wear market segment, and piloted the entry into women’s ethnic and western product line.

A year later, he joined Future Group India as VP-Operations leading the operations for Central and Brand Factory outlets, which measured over 1.6 million sq ft retail space then. In 2011, he was appointed the MD of Proline India, where he endeavors to create value for all stakeholders.

Rahul Leekha
Owner/Director | Coffee By Di Bella

After completing his education in Mumbai, Rahul Leekha took a year’s break and then joined EmmayHR when he was in his early twenties. When the company was acquired by Randstad, he started his own HR advisory firm, Artemis, where he focused on placing senior-level management teams and worked with big-ticket brands like Godrej and Del Monte. Around that time, he met Philip Di Bella, founder of the Australian café brand, Coffee By Di Bella, which wanted to expand its Indian presence. And in 2009, Rahul launched the Indian arm of Australian coffee brand as a full-service coffee chain with 20 outlets in Mumbai and six in the offing.

Anil Shankar

An economics graduate from Behrampur University, Anil started his career in 1994 as Senior Officer – Systems with Sterling Holiday Resorts, where he worked for over five years. A big change in his career came when he joined Shoppers Stop in May 1999 and in the 19 years that he has been associated with the retail major, he managed various leadership roles and worked extensively on design, implementation and support of large IT projects. In his current role, he heads the team responsible for setting up and managing technology infrastructure for the Shoppers Stop retail group of companies.

Ranjan Sharma

Ranjan Sharma began his career in 1996 as a Product Manager with Futurecom, where he handled sales of IT infrastructure to leading corporates and developed a sales and maintenance team. In 2001, Ranjan joined Vishal Retail as Store Manager and within four months was promoted to Assistant Store Manager and later SCM and Logistics Manager. He was transferred to Delhi headquarters as Head–IT, where he successfully managed the IT deployment, which ran on Ginretail.

In 2007, he took the position of Head–SAP for Future Knowledge, where he built a low-cost IS-Retail practice to make the group completely self-dependent. After two years, he became the Head of Solutioning and Packaged Applications, and successfully steered a cost-effective application development and maintenance team. A year later, he was promoted to Head-IT, where he implemented Infor WMS, TMS and BI solutions.

Ranjan joined Bestseller in 2012 as Head of IT and Supply Chain Management, and is currently the CIO and Head of Supply Chain. In his current role, he is responsible for orchestrating the company’s IT roadmap, business process design, system and process implementation, solution roll-out, review, maintenance, etc.

Arun Gupta

Arun Gupta began his career in 1985 as a Territory Customer Services Manager for OMC Computers. His contribution across various functions including sales, R&B and general management, saw him get promoted four times within five years.

In 1991, he joined The Great Eastern Shipping Co as IT Manager, where he contributed towards the dismantling of EDP and implemented Oracle financials in the organization. Five years later, he moved to DSP Merrill Lynch as VP-IT, where he formulated guidelines and standards in conjunction with company’s global standards for computer systems, and communications, in line with the business strategy.

In 1999, he was appointed as the National IT Manager of DHL Worldwide Express, and within a year, he developed and implemented sales force automation for the company. Two years later, he decided to lead the IT and ISP operations of Hughes Telecom India as VP-IT. In 2002, he joined Pfizer Ltd as Senior Director-BT, where he created a Center of Excellence on technology domains for the Asia Pacific region.

In 2006, he was appointed IT Director of Philips and a year later, he shifted to K Raheja Corp as Group CIO.  Arun was the Group CTO of Shoppers Stop for over five years. He facilitated business improvements with a mix of new technology implementations and upgrades; thus enabling in the reduction of operating IT expenses and freeing budgets for strategic initiatives.

In 2014, he led the transformation agenda driven by technology rationalization for Cipla as Global Chief Information Officer, before changing tracks to become an advisor to various companies. These included GlobalSpace Technologies, Caliber Infosolutions, Simplr Solutions, Uniken, Unotech Software, Locuz Enterprise Solutions, Systech International.

He is currently the Consulting CTO for Praxis Home Retail where he formulates the IT strategy and helps execute business strategies with technology-led business innovation and transformation.

Chirag Boonlia
Group CTO | Embassy Group

A mechanical engineer from Dibrugarh University and armed with an MBA from IBS Hyderabad, Chirag Boonlia started his career as a Software Engineer with Infosys in 2003, before shifting to Oracle as a Senior Consultant. In 2008, he joined JSoft Solutions Ltd as Senior Project Manager for Business Applications and after three years, he joined Aditya Birla Retail Ltd as Assistant GM-IT. He was later promoted to Deputy GM–IT, where he led the service delivery and infrastructure Management, along with supply chain management roll outs with Oracle and Infor WMS’ products.

In 2013, he joined Virtuous Retail as Assistant VP–IT, where he headed the IT, ERP, CRM and B2B integration across platforms and technologies for footfall implementation, infrastructure and storage management and disaster recovery management. Three years later, he was promoted to VP–IT where he initiated and innovated IT requirements for assigned business functions and their delivery in accordance with project goals, time scales and costs.

Chirag joined Embassy Group as Group CTO in February 2019.

Sunil Nair
Sr VP, Technology & Biz Solutions | SPAR India

After completing his Masters in IT from University of Pune, Sunil Nair started his career in 1994 as a Computer Programmer for Shapoorji Pallonji and Co. After a year, he shifted base to Saudi Arabia and joined Landmark Group as Head IT. After a decade in this position, he transferred to the company’s Dubai office as a Business Analyst.

In 2007, Sunil joined Wipro as Retail Domain Specialist-Australia, where he oversaw program and delivery management for large retail projects, pre-sales consulting, client advisory and alliance management. A year later, he joined Madura Fashion & Lifestyle as Head–IT Retail, where he rolled out retail merchandise system, merchandise financial planning, assortment planning and POS solutions for the company.

After three and half years with the apparel brand, he returned to Landmark Group’s, to join the Auchan Hypermarket division. This company was a franchisee agreement between Landmark’s Max Hypermarkets and Groupe Auchan. As VP–Technology Solutions of Auchan Hypermarkets, India, Sunil completed an end-to-end Oracle Retail ERP implementation.

In 2014, he moved vertically to join the Spar India team, which is a Landmark Group and Spar Netherlands venture. In his current role as Sr VP–Technology and Business Solutions, he set up traditional IT infrastructure, including help desk, data centers and business systems as well as the tech landscape for omnichannel business. He also developed a digital strategy for the business, working with partners in IoT, virtual reality and proximity marketing, etc.

Piyush Kumar Chowhan

An alumni of Surat’s National Institute of Technology and Bhubaneshwar’s Xavier Institute of Management, Piyush began his career as a consultant for Tata Infotech, developing and deploying IT supply chain solutions for clients in for two and half years. He joined Wipro in 2001 as a Program Manager, where once again he was involved in supply chain management for clients in India and USA. He was promoted to Supply Chain Consultant where he gained insight into planning and execution of systems like i2 and Highjump.

In 2006, Piyush moved to Tesco as Lead of Program Delivery Manager where he led the delivery of various IT retail capabilities across 13 countries where the brand functioned. After seven years, he shifted to SanDisk as Senior Manager, where he setup and led the business analytics team to support channel management for its retail and OEM business. He was also responsible for building capability in channel financial management and analytics and delivering solutions for its worldwide operations.

In 2014, he joined Walmart Labs India as Director – Strategy, Analytics and Services, where he identified business opportunities, set strategies, assembled cross-functional teams, and managed resources to achieve results using analytics and process engineering practices. His team identified complex problems and identified solutions based on progressive process standards, Lean Six Sigma, etc.

In 2016, Piyush joined Arvind Lifestyle Brands Ltd, where in his current capacity as Sr VP and CIO, he is responsible for IT strategy, ensuring business value for IT projects and development of tech resources.

Kunal Mehta

About: Kunal started his career 19 years ago as a Senior Programmer with Baz Software where he carried out business analysis, database and systems design, client engagement, software development, UAT and training on multiple technologies for over two years. In 2003, he joined Nilkamal Ltd and later became the IT Head for its @Home retail stores. In also did a short stint with Johnson & Johnson where he mapped the business processes of its pharmaceutical division to the existing systems and develop customized applications. In May 2005, he joined Reliance Retail where he was part of the core team for systems design and rollout of Storeline systems (Retalix) software for various formats of Reliance Retail stores. He also managed IT operations, governance, rollout and support of 30 Reliance Fresh stores, helping it migrate from the legacy systems of Sahakari Bhandar. In October 2007, he joined Unisource, the global procurement hub for Steve & Barry’s retail chain. As a SAP Project Manager and Business Analyst, he led a team of business systems analysts to implement SAP and develop supporting systems for various functions for India and US operations.

In September 2008, he joined Trent Hypermarket Ltd as Head – IT. During his seven years in the company, Kunal drove a digital transformation initiative to integrate all IT systems and processes under a uniform infrastructure. Currently, as GM-IT, Lifestyle Business for Raymond Ltd, Kunal is responsible for creating the company’s IT strategy and framework for the enterprise as well as digital and omni-channel business.
